The Windward School was formerly a business college constructed in 1968 and converted into a private high school in 2003. Subsequent to its conversion, Windward experienced an expanding student population that required them to proceed with a large-scale metamorphosis.
The further expansion of their programs required them to create a modern, safe, and inviting school complex for the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades while redesigning the athletic fields and bus drop off, parking and service areas. The architectural challenge was to utilize and integrate the existing school structure, which largely included low ceilings and concrete construction.
The project incorporated extensive exterior and interior renovations including window replacements and new mechanical, ventilation, sprinkler and electrical systems. In order to give the school a strong identity, an impressive front entrance facade and canopy was designed.
